Founded in late 2009 by professional runners Ryan and Sara Hall, The Hall Steps Foundation is a non-profit movement to fight global poverty through better health. Our goal is to build a community and provide each member an opportunity to take their own STEPS toward relieving suffering and helping the poor rise out of poverty. We are a lifestyle philanthropy that encourages our supporters to make a personal commitment to their own health and wellness, using it as a catalyst to ignite change and make a difference in the lives of others.
Sara was the 2012 US National Cross Country Champion and a Gold Medalist at the Panamerican Games in the steeplechase. She has represented the US at three World Indoor Track and Field Championships and a World Cross Country Championship.
Shannon Rowbury is an Olympic athlete, World Championships Bronze medalist and four-time United States champion. Her 6th and 7th place finishes at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing are the highest Olympic finish ever by an American woman at that distance. In June 2009 she won the US Championships for the 1500m race for the second time. Shortly thereafter, she earned a Bronze medal at the World Championships in the women's 1500 meters race. She is the second fastest miler in American history.
While every runner has a unique story, Kim’s journey to the world of professional running does not resemble the path of many of her fellow competitors. Kim graduated from UC Davis with one national-level collegiate appearance to her name, and without ever qualifying for the NCAA Track and Field championships. Although her 5000m PR of 16:17.51 in 2009 was almost a full minute slower than the 2012 Olympic qualifying standard of 15:20, Kim believed that she had unfinished business with the sport of track and field and decided to pursue post-collegiate running simply to find out what more she could accomplish.
Devon Yanko is a trail, road, ultra runner. She loves distances from 10-100 miles and has been racing competitively in ultras and marathons around the world since 2005. She has run the 3rd fastest time in the 100 mile on trail for a North American (14:52) and also competed at the 2012 Olympic Trials in the marathon. When she is not running, she is the co-owner of M.H. Bread and Butter, a bakery cafe in Marin Cty, CA.
